In this first major retrospective of the awards, Rewind will allow visitors to view the best creative work of the last four decades. The exhibition opens on the November 7 and will run for three months at the V&A's new Contemporary Space.
Known as the 'Yellow Pencils', D&AD's awards are widely regarded as the Oscars for the ad and design industries, and have run annually since 1963.
The exhibits at Rewind will focus on a wide range of disciplines, including TV and print ads; product design and even music videos.
Among the more famous exhibits will be the 1970s Pregnant Man poster by Cramer Saatchi for the Health Education Council; the controversial Greenpeace advertising campaign, Dumb Animals, by David Bailey; and more recently, the colourful iMacs that were designed by Jonathan Ive for Apple.
The exhibition will also be marked by the publication of an accompanying book, Rewind: Forty Years of Design and Advertising, published by Phaidon. The 512-page volume outlines the history of design and advertising, and features many well-known and famous advertising campaigns and designs.
