First up, viewers can continue to expect more of the same in regards to a super beautiful cast, amazing costumes, elephantine consumption of hard liquor, and almost everyone puffing away on cigarettes like they have never heard the words "metastasized tumor".
The story starts around six months after we left off. According to the New York Times, Betty Draper, the depressed wife of prodigious philanderer Don, is in the final stages of pregnancy with their third child.
Her father, whose senile dementia is getting worse, has moved in.
At Sterling Cooper, the Brits have moved in, having bought the firm at the end of the last series. Cue the appearance of two stuffy Brits and the onset of paranoia for most of the staff, including Peggy, who struggles to command the respect of her female secretary.
Unfortunately, the reviewers have been remarkably restrained in giving much more than that away. So we can't tell you whether Joan is still engaged after her fiance raped her in the Sterling Cooper office or if Peter is coping with the news that he has fathered a child with Peggy, who has been adopted (given previous form, we're guessing he's not).
What we can tell you is that the overall opinion is that the third series of the show lives up to the standards of the first two. Not much else could make us look forward to January, but this news can.
