Universal McCann ousts Kent as Dudgeon takes over reins

NEW YORK - Robin Kent has been replaced as worldwide chief executive of Universal McCann by chief operating officer Murray Dudgeon on an interim basis, as the Interpublic Group company steps up to defend two high-profile accounts.

Universal McCann is gearing up to defend more than $4bn (£2.09bn) in media buying and planning reviews for US General Motors and L'Oreal.

In the General Motors pitch, the agency is up against Publicis Groupe's GM Planworks and, in the L'Oreal review, Universal McCann is up against Publicis' ZenithOptimedia.

John Dooner, chief executive of McCann Erickson Worldwide Group, said: "Robin will work with me on special Interpublic media projects. Murray will oversee Universal McCann's operations and ensure continued media excellence."

Kent has been with Universal McCann since 1996, holding regional posts in Europe for the first six years. He was appointed as chairman and chief executive officer after moving to Universal McCann's New York office in 2002.

Dudgeon has been with the agency for 25 years and has held senior posts in London and New York.
