Breijer cited "personal reasons" for his sudden departure and his duties are being picked up by Graham Duff, president of parent group Mediabrands EMEA and Breijer's predecessor.

Duff is leading the search for a replacement for Breijer, who left his role as chief executive of Universal McCann in the Netherlands to take the post in September 2008.

Breijer started his career at Wegener Media in 1997 before joining OMD Netherlands as a senior media planner in 1999. He joined Interpublic’s Universal McCann Netherlands as deputy managing director in 2003, becoming chief executive in two years later.

Elsewhere, the agency network has appointed Jan Boyle as its executive vice-president, global managing partner lead.

Her appointment, according to the agency network, marks the creation of a new global role at UM, designed to "serve and increase the agency's existing global and multi-regional client base and enhance the efforts of its global client leads".
