Unilever's sauces chief adds snacks and savoury role

Unilever has handed responsibility for setting European brand strategy for its snacks and savoury brands, including Pot Noodle and Knorr, to Torvald de Coverly Veale. The appointment follows the departure of European category director for snacks and savoury, Jeremy Woods.

Woods, who was previously Unilever's vice-president of international marketing in the US, left Unilever in May. The company would not disclose where he has moved to.

The expansion of de Coverly Veale's role is in addition to his existing role as European category director for sauces. De Coverly Veale will be charged with developing brand and marketing strategies for all Unilever's snack and savoury brands across Europe, as well as sauce brands including Chicken Tonight. Responsibility then falls to marketing chiefs in individual markets, such as UK's Knorr Savoury business group director, Chris Springford, to implement them.

De Coverly Veale works out of Unilever's Crawley office and reports to global senior vice-president for Knorr, Rotterdam-based Alain Loss.
