Unilever reviews $120m Japanese media account

HONG KONG - Unilever is reviewing its mammoth media buying and planning business in Japan, the third regional review in a process that is also expected to include Taiwan by the end of the year.

The account is currently split between Initiative for media planning duties and Asatsu-DK and Hakuhodo for media buying. In all the business is estimated to be worth around $120m.

Initiative will defend the account and shoot it out against MindShare and the two Japanese incumbent agencies in a winner takes all pitch for the combined account.

According to Media Asia, presentations for the the business took place at Unilever's headquarter's in Tokyo last week.

The review follows similar processes by Unilever in Indonesia and Australia over the past year.

Unilever's brands in Japan include Brooke Bond, Dove, Lipton, Lux and Ponds among others.
