The business, worth £140m, is currently divided between Carat UK and Initiative Media Worldwide. Initiative, which is owned by Interpublic Group of Companies, controls 95% of the business. Unilever brands include Cif, Organics shampoo, Findus and Hellmann's.
Unilever refused to confirm whether a pitch would be taking place. Steve Bailey, Unilever's media director, said he knew absolutely nothing of the reassessment, adding that if Unilever has anything to say "a public statement will be made".
According to Unilever policy, its marketing policies are reassessed every three years. Reports indicate that the company will be guaging the agencies' performances against certain criteria between now and June.
