The August edition of the magazine will have three different front covers of the band through its 25 鈥搚ear history, with a selection of tracks compiled by either frontman Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck or bass player Mike Mills.
The Stipe CD has tracks recorded by the bands themselves solely for the CD, after they were handpicked by the enigmatic frontman.
Stipe said: 鈥淚t was really cool compiling a CD of great music for Uncut and it鈥檚 great that we all got to do our own.鈥
Publisher Andrew Sumner added: 鈥淭his is a genuinely unique event in publishing 鈥 not just because of the complexity of producing three separate special CDs for one magazine, but because of the sheer depth of collaboration with a band of REM鈥檚 stature.鈥
The move comes at the end of a major collaboration between the IPC title and the US-based band, which has seen Uncut partner REM鈥檚 current UK tour in some of the country鈥檚 biggest music venues such as London鈥檚 Hyde Park and Cardiff鈥檚 Millennium Stadium.
In a separate development, Uncut is to sponsor the National Film Theatre鈥檚 celebration of the career of US acting giant Robert Mitchum during July and August.
The magazine will also partner the 25th Cambridge Film Festival, which runs from 7 to 17 July.
