The May issue, on sale this week, has been redesigned throughout, including a new masthead and new regular sections. It has a greater focus on contemporary music that extends to the covermounted CD, which now focuses entirely on highlighting the month's new releases.
Themed CDs and collections of cover versions will be cut back, although occasional specials curated by top artists are stilll likely.
Uncut's film coverage meanwhile will now be contained in a separate central section after readers said they found the existing mix of music and film "confusing". The new look is likely to extend to quarterly spin-off title Uncut DVD later in the year.
Steve Sutherland, IPC Ignite's editorial director, said reader research had identified a "fatigue" with older-oriented music magazines like Uncut and Mojo talking about artists of the past.
"We had become a bit typecast about being all about the Sixties and Seventies, when readers were more excited about artists from the recent past," he said. "Our readers range from their 20s to their 60s and they want to be turned on to more and more music from all eras."
