UN food aid body in TV ad appeal

The World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations' food aid organisation, is to use a TV campaign to encourage Europeans to help the world's starving populations.

In a departure from the body's traditional focus on raising awareness, the ads will direct viewers to its website to make a donation.

The first ad, created by Leagas Delaney, will be broadcast in December on BBC World and CNN. It will be followed by two further executions in the new year.

The ad will encourage viewers to donate the cost of a dessert - the amount it costs to feed someone in the developing world for a month.

Translated into Spanish, French, German and Italian, the ads will air across Europe.
