At his first major event since , Childs was speaking at the 2011 programming launch for UKTV’s stable of channels, which includes Dave and Watch, held at the Royal Opera House on Friday (15 October).
Childs said: "What has struck me in my short time here is how much more there is to UKTV and its 10 branded channels and websites. It’s an incredibly ambitious, hungry and highly successful business.
"In these tough economic times, our commercial impact growth is 9% to date and we’re confident we’ll end the year, again, on double-digit growth, for the third year in a row."
The showcase event was attended by 350 industry executives; including media agencies, and Andy Barnes, sales director at Channel 4. Channel 4 will handle the ad sales for UKTV’s portfolio of channels from 1 January 2011.
Childs said: "Our 10-year deal with [Channel 4] signals to the market we are ready to maximise the full potential of our strongly branded channels.
"We’re a natural fit for Channel 4. Our top quality brands, content and audiences are complementary and an innovative approach to advertising binds us together."
New shows announced at the event include US acquisition ‘Body of Proof’, as well as British commissions including ‘TA In Afghanistan’, ‘Celebrity DIY with Craig Phillips’, ‘What the Neighbours Did’ and ‘Nazi Collaborators’.
Childs said partnership lay at the heart of UKTV’s commissioning model and claimed UKTV’s ad-funded programming is "market leading", using Toyota-funded ‘Carpool for Dave’ and ‘Red Bull X-Fighters’ as examples.
Also in attendance were independent production companies and talent such as adventurer Ben Fogle, presenter of ‘Animal Park’ on Eden, and ex-boyband member Duncan James, presenter of ‘Scream If You Know The Answer’ on Watch.
Channel 4 and UKTV in July, a deal which led to the announcement of the closure of Virgin Media’s sales house Ids.
