They replace the existing UKTV factual channel, UK Horizons, which will go off the air when the new channels start broadcasting on Monday 8 March.
This coincides with a rebranding of the network's channels. From this date, all of the channel names will start with the UKTV prefix rather than UK.
UKTV Documentary will showcase British documentary and factual programming, showing formats such as What The Romans Did For Us and Fred Dibnah, as well as documentary strands such as Horizon and The Blue Planet.
The UKTV People channel will feature factual and factual entertainment programmes targeted at a mainly male audience. Headline shows include Top Gear, Louis Theroux and SAS Are You Tough Enough?.
Dick Emery, the chief executive of UKTV, said: "Our ultimate aim is to offer the best possible choice to our viewers - the right programme for the right audience at the right time."
