The UK operation, which includes the Independent, the Independent on Sunday, the Belfast Telegraph, free magazine Girl About Town and recruitment website LondonCareers.net, saw operating profit increase £1.5m to £10.4m.
Advertising revenues were up 1.5% year-on-year, despite falling circulation at the Belfast Telegraph and a tough market in London for recruitment advertising.
The Independent and the Independent on Sunday grew advertising by 11.4%, which the publisher attributed to a stronger recognition of the compact format adopted by the daily paper in late 2003 and by the Sunday paper in October.
Sir Anthony O'Reilly, chief executive of INM, said: "INM's globally balanced portfolio of operations in strongly growing markets, diverse multimedia platforms and market-leading brands, continue to distinguish the group from its media peer group.
"When coupled with the group's clear and compelling strategy for growth and its commitment to be the industry's low cost operator, the board is confident of INM's ability to deliver another year of superior earning growth for 2006, in line with current market expectations."
