UK parents back marketers' right to target children

Less than half of adults think there should be a ban on TV

advertising of food and drink to children, according to a poll conducted

exclusively for Marketing, by Taylor Nelson Sofres.

Just 41% of respondents to the survey said there should be a ban on ads

targeted at kids, while 55% said there shouldn't be. Some 4% didn't

know.

Of those respondents that have children, 59% said that there should not

be a ban on ads to kids, while 38% would like to see one. Of those

without children, 42% thought there should be a ban, but 53% said there

didn't need to be one.

Younger people tended to support advertising to children, with 76% of

those aged 16 to 24 saying there should be no ban compared with 21% who

supported restrictions.

Those over 65 years old tended to be on the other side, with 58%

supporting a ban and 34% objecting to one.
