A total of 16 Hilton properties, all owned by property mogul Igal Ahouvi and partners, will benefit from the programme, which will see bedrooms, bars, restaurants and public areas updated.

The programme will also see the launch of The Space, an innovative lounge concept that can be used for events.

The work is due to be complete by 2011, with the first launch taking place at Hilton Newbury North next month.

"We are delighted that our Hilton hotels will be able to benefit from this major investment programme. We hope that as a result of the investment, and under the expert management of Hilton, the hotels will be well placed to benefit from the economic recovery as it develops and gains pace," said CEO for Igal Ahouvi's hotel businesses Hugh Taylor.
