
The annual survey was based on data from 403 venues across the UK also found that there was an average of 379 events per venue in 2009, down slightly from 2008 when there was an average of 391 events per venue.
There was also an estimated 94 million attendees at events in 2009 - an estimated 1.32 million events with an average attendance of 71 people.
A majority of venues are optimistic about events business for the future with 65% planning to invest in their properties, with 9% spending in excess of £1million.
The annual UKEMTS survey is supported by major events industry organisations, including Confex Group, CAT Publications, Visit Britain, Conference Centres of Excellence and Meet England.
