NEW YORK - Together, the coalition of brands that launched in the UK last year to give customers advice on how to save energy and fight climate change, has rolled out to the US.

UK brand-led climate change group launches in US

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are launching ‘Together' (www.together.com) in the US today.

‘By making it easier and more affordable for Americans to fight climate change, we are taking a giant step towards a brighter and cleaner future. I extend my best wishes for every success in saying 'hasta la vista' to climate change,' Governor Schwarzenegger said.

The coalition of US businesses and non-profit organisations includes JP Morgan Chase, Dell, discount retailer Target, MySpace, Nestle Waters and Timberland and the National Wildlife Federation. MTV, Newscorp Fox and Time Warner have joined the campaign as media partners.

Together was first launched in the UK in 2007 and is supported by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, London Mayor Boris Johnson and former US Vice President Al Gore. The UK coalition includes Marks & Spencer, O2 and Tesco, B&Q, Barclaycard, British Gas, BSkyB, More Th>n, National Express, along with The Church of England, Defra and the National Consumer Council.

In just one year, Together claims to have helped British consumers save more than half a million tonnes of CO2 and £100m on household bills. This annual saving is equivalent to taking 195,000 family cars off the road for a year, or 4.6% of the UK's annual emissions reductions.

These savings were delivered by 20 million simple consumer actions including switching to low energy light-bulbs, washing clothes at 30 degrees, installing home insulation, switching to green energy tariffs and not upgrading mobile phones.
