Bulkeley will return to the US in December to take up his new post. A replacement for Bulkeley, who is credited with driving AOL to the number one position in the UK online market, has not been named.
The news of his departure comes as AOL launched its first ever UK TV ad campaign and as it celebrated reaching 500,000 UK members.
