In an email to staff yesterday, Kalanick (above) said he needed to take time off indefinitely following the death of his mother and "to reflect".
"If we are going to work on Uber 2.0, I also need to work on Travis 2.0 to become the leader that this company needs and that you deserve," Kalanick added.
Yesterday Uber released the results of a report that was commissioned in response to sexual harassment claims by former engineer Susan Fowler.
said Uber should improve its diversity, including using a blind CV process in job applications and requiring at least one woman and one ethnic minority candidate to be identified for key positions.
Uber should also "review and reallocate" Kalanick’s responsibilities, the report says, by bringing in a chief operating officer to act as a "full partner" with the CEO.
