In an interim results statement, the company, which provides content and commercial services to many of the UK's radio broadcasters, said that it had it had reduced ongoing losses, had no loss-making digital joint ventures and was without debt, with a £2.5m cash position.

UBC, one of the shareholders in the planned digital radio platform 4Digital, said it had implemented £500,000 cost savings, secured airtime on Capital FM and Classic for the first time through its Traffic & Travel Network and that the BBC was adopting its radio EPG technology for iPlayer.

With an audience of 21 million across its networks, UBC said it is the largest buying point by reach in UK commercial radio and that its commercial networking division is "well-positioned for recovery, with 67% of UK commercial radio audience to sell to advertisers".

In October,  the sale of UBC Media's commercial division to US radio company, Global Traffic Network, fell through due to the uncertain economic conditions.

The sale and purchase agreement was due to have been signed on 17 October, for an initial cash payment of £11m. The transaction was meant to complete by 15 November, with further additional payments of up to £5.5m to be paid dependent upon the commercial division achieving certain turnover targets.
