UBC in £3m digital music downloading push

Digital radio company UBC Media Group is investing £3m in a push into digital music downloading.

UBC, which owns Classic Gold Digital and, with Channel 4, owns digital-only speech station Oneword , plans to invest in its digital music download technology, which allows listeners to buy music from radio stations via a handheld mobile device.
For the year to 31 March, the company reported revenue of £19.44m for the year, up 21.8%. The growth came mostly from advertising revenues from networked programming, which rose 45.8% year on year to £11.01m.
UBC also posted a 13.9% increase in revenue from its digital software business and a 5.1% boost to its digital content division, which produces customised programming for clients such as the BBC and The Times.
UBC reported operating profit before goodwill amortisation of £349,000, the first time since its IPO, but the net loss before tax was £234,000.
