Tutssel has been the deputy chief creative officer of Leo Burnett US since 2001, when he moved over from the London office of the Publicis Groupe-owned advertising agency.
He has worked for Leo Burnett for 19 years and, in his new role, will focus on Leo Burnett's global creative product and the development and recruitment of talent. He will report to worldwide chief creative officer Miguel Angel Furones.
Tom Bernardin, chief executive of Leo Burnett USA, said: "Mark Tutssel is a world-class creative talent with a passion for creative excellence.
"His work speaks for itself, as does his ability to find and nurture great young talent. Mark is well qualified to follow in Miguel's footsteps to lead stewardship of the Leo Burnett creative product into the future."
Tutssel will continue to oversee many key global client relationships and will be based in Chicago.
At the same time, the agency said that Cheryl Berman, chairman of Leo Burnett North America and chief creative officer Leo Burnett USA, has taken on additional international responsibilities and will be assuming a broader role with the agency.
