Turning Point: Hamish Pringle, director general, IPA

My career turning point was...in 1997 when I met Marjorie Thomson. She had set up Saatchi & Saatchi Cause Connection, the UK's first specialist cause marketing agency. Chairman Alan Bishop and joint chief executives Adam Crozier and Tamara Ingram saw it as a new business spearhead and put it under my wing as director of marketing.

Our first task was to write credentials and Marjorie introduced me to a new dimension of advertising. Learning about cause-related marketing led to our book, Brand Spirit: How Cause-Related Marketing Builds Brands, the first in the world on the subject.

This success led to three more books and I'm now working on a media strategy book with Jim Marshall. None of this would have happened without Marjorie.
