Turkey hunts global agency for tourism task

The Turkish government is seeking a global ad agency to bolster the country's appeal as a tourist destination.

Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has issued a tender for the business, which is worth more than £3m in the UK, and is expected to draw up a shortlist within the next two weeks.

It is looking for an agency network or several agencies, which will be responsible for targeting visitors from regions including Europe, the US, the Gulf, North Africa and Asia.

The activity will highlight Turkey's cultural and historical roots and reassure potential visitors that, despite recent terrorist attacks in the resorts of Kusadasi and Cesme, the country remains a thriving tourist destination.

'The attacks have not put people off and UK visitor numbers are up 25% on last year,' said a spokeswoman.

The tourist board's UK advertising business is currently handled by Turkish agency DDF.
