Gentle was fatally injured while preparing to sail in the 40th Yare Navigation Race in Norfolk.

The client services director was also a member of the agency’s UK board and had worked in the business since it was founded by Ian Russell in 1982. He was responsible for one of TRO’s longest-standing clients, General Motors.

While the agency did not wish to comment at this time, it stated on its website: "Tom had an absolute joie de vivre and an insatiable energy for everything he undertook. Passions included cycling, skiing and sailing, the latter which tragically took Tom’s life [on Friday].

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom’s wife, Sandra, family and friends, and of course his TRO family."
