Co-founders Lyn Hughes and Paul Morrison have also confirmed that they are increasing the number of issues from six to eight a year following investment from publishers John Brown and Mark Ellingham, founder of Rough Guides, last year.
The October issue, which will go on sale September 9, appears with a new masthead and the cover price will be increased to £3.80.
New features will include a regular career-break column and a wildlife column by Radio 4 naturalist Mark Carwardine. Tony Wheeler, founder of Lonely Planet, has also joined the magazine as a regular columnist.
From the November issue, the magazine will feature a family travel section aimed at the growing number of families who travel long haul and take adventure holidays.
Other features in the October relaunch issue include: Indiana Jones v Bridget Jones -- are women more adventurous than men?; Swimming with Whale Sharks in Mexico; and 52 Wild Weekends -- quirky breaks for every weekend of the year.
Morrison said: "We've got a large and loyal subscription readership, but we believe there is a lot more we could be doing with our newstrade sales. The new size will show off the stunning travel images we use to even greater advantage, and the vibrant new look should help attract new readers who may not have been aware of us."
Wanderlust was established in 1993, conceived on a long-hail flight to South America, and caters for the growing market of affluent, avid travellers seeking soft adventure and holidays away from the mainstream.
