In a statement today, Transport Media said it had reached the decision after their clients, staff and family members were "outraged by the overwhelming controversial and negative remarks regarding how career women make bad mothers".

The company is reported to be appalled that "only a small percentage of OAA members were consulted on the decision to run with this hard hitting campaign" and it "misrepresented and unfairly judged working mothers" and did not promote outdoor advertising to be as effective as it should be.

Bill Wilson, operations director at the OAA, said he has not received any notice of Transport Media's resignation but it is understood they may have contacted OAA chief executive Alan James, who is now on annual leave.

Wilson said: "We regret losing any members and wish them well in the future."

Transport Media is understood to be the third largest taxi media owner behind Ubiquitous and Taxi Media. It manages advertising on buses and ad vans as well as taxis.

The outdoor company is said to be considering launching its own national taxi campaign 'Career women make brilliant mothers'.
