Tourism Ireland has retained Publicis London to its creative account and named OMD as its global media agency, following an eight-month statutory review of its agency arrangements.

The tourism body, responsible for marketing the island of Ireland as a holiday destination to a global audience, is required to put its accounts up for every seven years. On this occasion, the process involved Creativebrief.

Publicis London, which has picked up numerous awards for its Game of Thrones-led campaigns, has been re-appointed to develop its global creative work. It won the account from J Walter Thompson London in 2011.

However, Tourism Ireland has opted to move its media account from Dentsu Aegis Network agencies Carat and iProspect to Omnicom’s OMD. Carat picked up the business from Mindshare in 2011.

Nick Farnhill, chief executive of Publicis London and Poke, said: "We’ve loved working with Tourism Ireland for the past seven years and are enormously proud of the partnership we’ve created. We’re thrilled to have been awarded the opportunity to continue working together and showcase all that the island of Ireland has to offer and bring even more new visitors to this exceptional country."

Last summer, Tourism Ireland created a giant medieval tapestry depicting scenes from Game of Thrones to mark the launch of the show’s seventh series. The 77-metre long Bayeux-style tapestry illustrated famous moments from the HBO series.

"Ireland is vibrant, exciting and cultural destination and tourism is an incredibly important sector with 10.65 million visitors each year spending approximately €5.78bn (£5bn)," Guy Marks, chief executive of OMD EMEA, added.
