The race was due to take place between the 18-22 August and would have been broadcast across Europe and the USA.
Yet despite ‘significant commercial and public sector funding' it failed to raise the funds needed and was subsequently scrapped.
Since it was revived in 2007 the event has attracted several top cycling stars to Ireland.
"We fully intend to bring it back for 2011 when the private sector environment is stronger," said Tour of Ireland Cycling Events organiser Alan Rushton.
