Vernon Salt, Blockbuster's top international marketer, is moving to a senior branding and marketing consultancy role at Blockbuster's parent company, Viacom.
Salt, senior vice-president for worldwide advertising and international marketing at Blockbuster, will develop synergies across Viacom's brand portfolio, which also includes MTV Networks, Paramount, Nickelodeon, CBS and UCI Cinemas.
He will also look at the possibility of establishing cradle-to-grave marketing strategies across the brands. The group's brand promotions currently include offers targeted at consumers of all ages, from Nickelodeon Junior to MTV and UCI Cinemas. It is the first time Viacom has hired a senior marketer to look at developing such a strategy.
Salt quit his post at Blockbuster after the company decided to relocate the role to its US headquarters. The post has been filled by Blockbuster US chief marketing officer Jim Notarnicola.
'It was a personal decision not to leave the UK,' said Salt. 'This new consultancy role offers a great opportunity.'
Salt had held his previous post for about two years, following a stint as Blockbuster's UK marketing chief.
Separately, Blockbuster UK managing director Alex Sparks is recruiting a domestic marketing head, following incumbent Sharon Carter's exit last month.
