1. Garry Lace and Miguel Herrera

The manager of the Mexican national football team became a familiar face on TV screens during the summer’s World Cup. Such is his resemblance to the former managing director of TBWA\London (and ex-chief executive of Grey London and Lowe, and one-time founding partner of Beta and marketing director of the Royal Opera House) that many thought Lace had turned his hand to something else. After all, would it really be that surprising?

2. Neil Christie and Marcus Wareing

The brooding Christie and Wareing share an intensity born of adversity. Both have experienced setbacks during their career – Christie at TBWA and Wareing in his frequent spats with Gordon Ramsay – but also emerged wiser and more successful than before. These are a pair from the school of hard knocks and are to be messed with at your peril (plus, at least one of them is likely to be carrying a knife).

3. Matt Gooden and BOB

With confirmation of a Twin Peaks revival coinciding with Crispin Porter & Bogusky’s acquisition of Richard Pinder’s The House Worldwide, there is the chance that both the fictional supernatural killer and the uncompromising executive creative director will be making a bigger impression on the scene in the next few months. Given that the actor who played BOB died in 1995, might Gooden take some time out of his busy schedule to take on the role?

4. Sarah Golding and Katie White

The CHI & Partners chief executive Golding not only shares a physical similarity to the lead singer of The Ting Tings, but both were born and raised on the outskirts of Manchester. Even more remarkably, White’s grandfather was an early winner of the National Lottery, pocketing more than £6 million, of which he gave a substantial amount to his granddaughter. Golding’s husband, David, also ended up cash rich following the sale of his agency, Adam & Eve, to Omnicom – although quite how much of a benefactor he has been depends on who you listen to.

5. Camilla Harrisson and Alice Tinker

On the other hand, Harrisson and the equally sweet-natured Tinker share nothing but a passing resemblance and a welcome streak of kindness. While Tinker is known for her unstinting loyalty to the vicar Geraldine Granger, Harrisson is a tougher proposition altogether and left her long-standing post by the side of Lisa Thomas this year to inject some of her new-business pizzazz into Anomaly London.

6. Richard Arscott and Richard Hammond

It’s not just their diminutive build and tiny childlike hands that the Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO managing director and the Top Gear co-host share. Both are motormouths and are easily egged on by bigger boys (cf. Ian Pearman and Jeremy Clarkson) to do silly things. While Hammond is famous for losing control of a rocket car, an episode that landed him in hospital, Arscott frequently loses passports, wallets and laptops – and, most famously, the Metropolitan Police pitch document.

7. Mel Edwards and Fay Lucas

Older readers may remember Lucas (played by Alison Bettles) as the pretty and lively blonde from Grange Hill  during the mid-80s. Fate determined that Lucas’ ambition of becoming a PE teacher sadly came to nothing but, free from the chilling glare of Mr Bronson, Edwards was rather more successful in chasing her own dreams and was installed as the chief executive of Wunderman in 2012.

8. Richard Exon and Russell Grant

Who knows whether Exon asked the chubby and larger-than-life astrologer to delve into the planets to see how well Joint London would be doing after nearly three years of trading. But the charismatic and chirpy agency frontman appears to be fast turning into the daytime TV favourite. That much was certainly written in the stars.

9. Annette King and Alex Polizzi

Here we have two powerful women who have earned the right to call themselves "The Fixer". While the TV personality Polizzi specialises in turning around the fortunes of struggling hotels and other small businesses, King was elevated from OgilvyOne to become the chief executive of Ogilvy Group in the UK, where there are no similarities at all.

10. James Murphy and Gareth Malone

The gentle and slightly camp choirmaster (Malone) achieved fame by encouraging people in challenging situations, such as sink estates and tough schools, to come together and make sweet, sweet music. The charismatic and oft-imitated Murphy has done something similar (and what many thought unachievable) by combining Adam & Eve and DDB to make the UK outpost of the network a potent creative force once again.
