Tom George to be Mediaedge:cia MD

Tom George is the latest senior member of staff to jump ship from ZenithOptimedia, following his resignation as joint deputy managing director to become the new managing director of Mediaedge:cia.

His departure follows a 12-month period of management change at ZenithOptimedia after the arrival of Anthony Young as the chief executive.

First to leave was the joint managing director Tim Greatrex, whose exit was shortly followed by that of his counterpart Greg Turzynski. Greatrex has yet to re-emerge on the media scene, while Turzynski launched a strategic communications shop with James Whitmore, a former managing director of Mediaedge:cia.

Other departures include the managing partners Phil Nunn, who joined Manning Gottlieb OMD as the head of direct channels, and Enyi Nwosu, who left to become the head of TBWA Connections.

George, who was responsible for trading at Zenith-Optimedia, fills a role at Mediaedge:cia made vacant by the departure of Matt James, who left after just three months to launch a start-up, Naked Ambition.

George is a respected figure on the media scene and has been a long-standing Zenith employee. He was made the deputy managing director of the merged ZenithOptimedia in March last year but was passed over for the managing director position in October following the departure of Turzynski. The job went to Gerry Boyle.

ZenithOptimedia's head of TV, Chris Hayward, and head of radio, Jim Freeman, replace George on the executive board.
