TNS acquires MediaMarket as it caps a solid 2007

LONDON - Taylor Nelson Sofres has acquired Irish media intelligence firm MediaMarket as it reports a solid performance, with strong new business, across the group in a 2007 trading update.

TNS reported, in a trading update, that it expects underlying revenue growth for the group to be over 5% and to experience good levels of new-business activity going into 2008.

In Europe, TNS reported a good performance in the UK against a flat market and steady underlying revenue growth in France. The rest of Europe performed very well, with strong growth in Russia and Eastern Europe.

The group has acquired Dublin-based MediaMarket, which provides media monitoring, measurement and analysis services to Ireland's leading businesses and organisations.

Established in 2002, MediaMarket's clients include Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank, Vodafone, BT and Diageo. Michael Farrelly will remain as managing director of the company.

The North America region returned to growth in 2007. TNS said that in a year of stabilisation for US custom research, that business continued to make encouraging progress and recorded a positive revenue performance for the year.

Underlying growth in the Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa region was again strong in most markets.

TNS said that the consumer sector was steady, with good growth in global accounts. Underlying growth in all other sectors was better, with media, healthcare and automotive particularly strong.

David Lowden, TNS chief executive, said: "MediaMarket is an excellent company with an outstanding position in the Irish market. Having access to TNS' international network and expertise will enable the company to offer new and added-value solutions to its clients."
