Tiscali in clear over special offer ad complaints

LONDON - Tiscali has escaped action from the ad watchdog after a handful of complaints about its recent special-offer advertising.

One person objected that TV and national press ads for Tiscali Broadband were misleading because they did not clearly state that the offer was for a broadband plus telephone package, where Tiscali would take over as the call provider.

The Advertising Standards Authority rejected the complaint after concluding that consumers were likely to understand Tiscali would take over as the call provider by the fact it was offering free weekend calls.

Another complainant challenged that a press ad stating the offer ended on October 31 was misleading after noting a package at the same price was being advertised after that date.

In response the ASA noted the offer had been extended to November 20 and this was unlikely to result in any significant detriment to the consumer.
