The Times to launch food strand of loyalty programme

LONDON - News International is to publish another wave of discount packs for subscribers to The Times newspaper as it looks to generate fresh revenue streams amid falling sales of the national newspaper title.

The Rupert Murdoch-owned title is launching a Times Food+ website in March this year. It follows the launch of Culture+ and Travel+ websites in October last year.

While News International is not releasing specific details of the various rewards on offer, Times Food+ is likely to be closely modelled on Culture+ and Travel+.

These packages include offers such as discounts on two for one travel on the Heathrow Express.

Membership of each pack costs £50 a year but is free of charge to subscribers of The Times and The Sunday Times.

Subscribers to the newspapers could also add an additional pack for £25.

New International is also thought to be looking at expanding the scheme into sports and property.

The move comes ahead of News International's move to charge for online content across its newspaper brands, which also includes The Sun and The News of the World.

According to the latest audited figures, circulation of The Times was 508,250 in January – down 10.9% on the year.

News International confirmed the launch but would not give further details.
