Times hires online marketing expert

Former web hosting marketer Simon Christy has been appointed the first marketing manager for Times Online.

The appointment comes as Times Newspapers continues its ongoing management reshuffle.

Mathew Watkins was recently promoted to advertisement sales director, Claire Myerscough became development director and Annelies van Belt became deputy advertisement sales director.

However, van Belt continued to have the responsibility for the online setup and developing on and offline strategies for digital and classified sales.

Simon Christy was previously marketing director, Central Europe, for the Active ISP Group.

He will work closely with Peter Bale, the newly appointed editorial director for Times Online.

Annelies van Belt said: 鈥淲e are delighted to have Simon on board. He will be working with both our commercial and editorial teams to help continue the successful growth of Times Online.鈥

Times Online was launched in 2001 and has 2.4 million users every month, 89% of which are classified as ABC1鈥檚.

The Times was the first UK media to launch an e-paper and Times Online as a business broke even in the second quarter of 2003.
