Time Warner abandons EMI merger

EMI and Time Warner called off their proposal to merge yesterday, amid speculation that the deal had been sacrificed so that Time Warner's much larger merger with America Online might be approved by regulators.

Time Warner and EMI faced a meeting of the European Commission's competition advisory group yesterday morning and the music companies decided to withdraw their application to merge, before it was rejected.
