Three shortlisted for position of BBC Radio 4 controller

LONDON - Steve Anderson, ex-ITV controller of current affairs, arts and religion; Anne Morrison, BBC controller of documentaries; and Roger Mosey, BBC head of television news, are in the running for the BBC Radio 4 controller's position.

Today is the cut-off day for applications, but Brand Republic can exclusively reveal that Anderson, Morrison and Mosey have submitted applications and are tipped to take Helen Boaden's role at the helm of Radio 4.

Boaden left to take on the director of news and current affairs position at the BBC after Richard Sambrook, took on the role of director of BBC global news division.

Sambrook originally strongly defended 'Today' reporter Andrew Gilligan's "sexed-up" report on Iraq weapons, broadcast on Radio 4, which started the row with the government.

After the Hutton Report, Sambrook kept his job after director-general Greg Dyke and chairman Gavyn Davies lost theirs.

Boaden and Sambrook will take up their new roles from September 1, with the Radio 4 position expected to be announced later this month.

Other possibilities for the controller's position are BBC Northern Ireland controller Anna Carragher; BBC head of current affairs Peter Horrocks; and Radio Five Live controller Bob Shennan.
