The Vault
Leeds Beckett University’s latest venue offering, managed by Well Met Conferencing and set to open this summer, is located at the converted Kirkstall Brewery residence – a leafy location with views of the Leeds Liverpool canal. The Vault combines three meeting spaces including The Snug, The Clubhouse and a large, cosy lounge area equipped with a fully-licensed bar and kitchen, snooker table and table football.
The space benefits from bright and funky fixtures and fittings, including Chesterfield sofas, oak tables, giant Yorkshire Tweed lampshades and huge grass walls. The Vault has been designed by Fuse8, who recently delivered the brief for Leeds’ Everyman cinema.
Robinson College Seminar Building
Part of the University of Cambridge, Robinson College has revealed construction of its new £5m seminar building is well underway, with conference and catering manager Nick Milne helping to install the first of 300 zinc panels this month that will clad the finished building.
The seminar building has been designed by local architect RH Partnership to offer delegates the latest high-specification technology, including multi-room visual streaming. The 1,200-square-metre, two-storey facility has recently been named as the Crausaz Wordsworth Building and is set to open in late summer. The space consists of a plenary flat-floor room offering cabaret for 80, dining for 120 and is supported by three breakout rooms, each with capacity for 15, which can also be combined into a single room offering space for 50 delegates.
De Montfort University
The Leicester educational establishment revealed this month it had appointed regional construction company Stepnell to transform a former sports centre into a state-of-the-art conference and events venue. The £3.7m refurbishment scheme, at what used to be the John Sandford sports centre, forms part of DMU’s £136m campus redevelopment project.
The existing building will be transformed into a bespoke space, which will be used to house exhibitions, functions, conferences and events, and have a capacity for close to 1,000 people. Work will involve the complete refurbishment of the former sports hall and associated buildings. The 2,500-square-metre facility will house a main hall, stores, kitchen, office space, meeting rooms and changing facilities. The project is due to be completed this August.
