Targeting parents and children in the school half-term, the activities will be themed around the giant artwork known as Hippopothames. Visitors will get the chance to take part in a children’s Hippo Trail around the docks, collecting special stamps in a fact book as the trey travel around the site.

There will also be face-painting and balloons available, and the chance to win a prize for uploading the funniest and cutest selfies onto Facebook or Twitter.

Caroline Young, event organiser at St Katharine Docks, said: "Hippopothames has proved to be an incredibly popular visitor to St Katharine Docks, and we thought it fitting to host our own special hippo day in his honour.  We hope as many families and hippo-lovers come down on join us for what promises to be a truly unique day."

The 21-metre Hippopothames structure was created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman for the month-long river festival, which saw more than 100 educational and cultural events take place across the 17 riverside boroughs.
