Shark, a new energy drink known in Thailand as White Shark, is set
to attack the UK market before June. Manufactured by Osotspa, a
Thailand-based company, the drink will roll-out in Austria and Germany
before coming to the UK within six months.
The drink, which has been sold in a brown medicine-style bottle in Asia,
has been repackaged for the European market in a tall, slim aluminium
can designed for the company by Minale Tattersfield & Partners.
The drink will compete with Red Bull, which was relaunched as Red Bull
Stimulation last year after some consumers confused the drink with a
lager brand. The new drink will arrive in a burgeoning market that
includes SmithKline Beecham’s Lucozade NRG, Britvic’s Red Card, Virgin’s
Energy, Richmond Distiller’s Red Devil, and Power Horse, a drink
manufactured by a company of the same name.
Energy drinks are being used as alcohol mixers more and more to boost
their appeal to the 18- to 25- year-old club market.
This week Red Bull and Vodka brand Smirnoff announced the on-trade test
of Smirnoff Bull - a mix containing both brands.
