Tetley pulled up for 'antioxidants' TV ad

LONDON - Tetley GB has been pulled up by the Advertising Standards Assocation for an ad promoting the health benefits of Tetley Green Tea.

The TV ad, created by MCBD, shows a women at home warming up for a jog. When she opens her front door she decides to scrap her plans due to heavy rain and instead has a cup of Tetley Green Tea.

The ad concludes with a voiceover stating: 'For an easy ay to help look after yourself pick up Tetley Green Tea. it's full of antioxidants'.

Four viewers complained that the ad was misleading because it implied that Tetley Green Tea had the same or similar health benefits as exercise. The ASA itself challenge whether the ad was misleading as it implied the tea had greater health benefits than it did.

The viewers complaints were not upheld, while the complaint submitted by the ASA was.

The ASA noted the ad was intended to promote healhty living through drinking green tea, which was hydrating and contained antioxidants. It said 'We considered that while the ad did not imply the tea hasd the same or similar health benefits to exercise, it did imply that the tea had some general health benefits beyond hydration, in particular because it contained antioxidants.

The ASA said the ad must not appear again in its current form.
