Tesco set to take spirits upmarket

LONDON - Tesco is relaunching its own-label spirits range to move it upmarket and take on branded competitors.

The products' packaging will be redesigned to give each spirit a more distinct identity; previously there was an element of consistency across the range.

The line will also be expanded with the extension of Tesco's premium Finest range to include cognac, gin and brandy. These will be on-shelf in time for Christmas.

Tesco's rivals have recently been active in the premium own-label market. Morrisons is currently running ads for its Best line, while Sainsbury's has relaunched its Taste the Difference range.
