Tesco links with 'Millionaire' for specials

LONDON - Tesco has struck a deal to create a nationwide promotion giving its customers and staff the chance to compete in special editions of ITV1 quiz show 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'.

The supermarket giant, which yesterday unveiled a 13.3% rise in first-half pre-tax profit to £545m, is teaming up with 'Millionaire' owner Celador International to launch the tie-up in 700 UK stores from mid-October.

Customers will get a scratchcard for every £25 they spend in store. If they correctly answer the questions on four gamecards, they enter a prize draw for the chance to attend a special edition of the show, hosted in the Millionaire studio by Chris Tarrant.

Two hundred customers and 200 staff will compete on separate editions, with the whole audience participating in the 'Fastest Finger First' round, the winner of which gets the chance to win £1m.

The 'Millionaire' broadcast sponsorship is currently held by Learndirect and comes up for renewal later this autumn.
