Created by The Red Brick Road, the ad broke during ITV's coverage of Chelsea (led by Lampard) versus Portsmouth in The FA Cup Final on Saturday (15 May). Media planning and buying has been handled by Mediabrands' Initiative.
The supermarket spot featuring England star, and Chelsea captain, Lampard, is set in a Tesco store.
It aims to bring to life Tesco's commitment to The FA Tesco Skills coaching programme with a family, played by Mark Addy and Fay Ripley, and their football-mad son.
While going about their normal weekly shop, the young boy runs off to collect a cauliflower which he then proceeds to use as a makeshift football.
He moves skilfully around aisles, trolleys and shoppers to reach the checkout where a man comments, "Not bad". The mum replies: "We’re hoping he might be the next Wayne Rooney," at which point the camera pans out to show the man is a disappointed looking Lampard.
The FA Tesco Skills programme has reportedly trained more than one million kids aged 5-11 since its launch in 2007.
Lampard said: "This programme, with The FA and Tesco coming together, is giving the kids the opportunity to learn these basic skills which can help you whether you play for your local team or go on to become a top player."

The supermarket is also ramping up activity in non-food with the anticipated launch of the England Wag-bag for life designed by players' partners including Alex Gerrard, midfielder Steven Gerrard's wife.
Tesco has been the "official England supermarket" since 2007, which includes being able to display the official FA England crest in its stores as well as in its advertising.
