LONDON (Brand Republic) - Tesco has appointed John Hoerner, former chief executive of Arcadia, to advise on its clothing range five months after he was ejected from the fashion chain.
The appointment is a clear sign that Tesco is stepping up its supermarket clothing war. Last week, Sainsbury’s began selling a clothing range designed by Jeff Banks and Marks & Spencer has recently poached George Davies, the designer behind the George range, from Asda.
Tesco hopes to close the gap between it and Asda, which has annual clothing sales of around £600m while Tesco trails with only £250m. Sainsbury’s comes a poor third with clothing sales of £40m.
