Tempus to buy US media agency

The UK's Tempus Group is set to buy California-based RNF Media, ending a year-long search for a West-Coast operation for its CIA media planning and buying network.

CIA, which has US billings estimated at $650m (£459.5m), has been in talks with the Los Angeles-based RNF for several months, according to reports. In the US, CIA already has offices in New York and Chicago, but was sorely lacking West Coast presence.

Beverley Hills-based RNF increased its billings by a third last year, to about $200m (£141.4m), mostly due to a number of dotcom clients. Other clients include Burger King and Sorrells Pickard Gourmet Peanut Butter, as well as travel and retail companies.

CIA's US clients include barnes&noble.com, Guinness, JP Morgan, Volvo and Wrangler.
