Telegraph Group poaches Foster from The Guardian as classified chief

LONDON – The Telegraph Group has poached Alex Foster from The Guardian to be its new head of classified advertising.

Foster joins from Guardian Recruitment Solutions, the Guardian Newspapers sales operation, where she was head of sales. She leaves The Guardian after more than a decade, having joined in 1994 as telesales executive and rising through the ranks.

Dave King, executive director of the Telegraph Group, said: "She's a fantastic addition to the new team and will bring a wealth of experience coupled with fresh thinking and masses of energy to maximise the potential of this market."

In her new role, she will oversee the classified operations at The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph and The Weekly Telegraph.

"The prospect of working for a company committed to driving change and developing its portfolio is incredibly exciting. I am looking forward to working with the whole team as well as the opportunity to help develop these leading titles," Foster said.

Foster is the second senior hire at the Telegraph Group, announced this week. Earlier it announced the appointment of Annelies van den Belt from Times Newspapers as new-media director of the Telegraph Group. She was previously deputy advertisement sales director and digital director.
