Telegraph group loses newspaper sales boss

The Telegraph Group is to re-evaluate its sales structure in the

wake of the loss of three of its most senior sales people in one week,

including head of newspaper sales Peter Barrie.

Barrie, who joined from The Times six years ago, led agency selling on

The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph.

He had also been overseeing ad sales on Sunday Business under the

recently signed contract-selling arrangement between the two newspaper

groups.

Barrie will join Australian publisher Fairfax as ad manager of the

Sydney Morning Herald in January.

Head of magazine sales Dee McEneny has also left The Telegraph, without

a job to go to, and has returned to Ireland. She is being replaced by

magazines group head Rachel Drew.

The third loss is agency group head Tania Duarte, earmarked as a

Telegraph high flyer, who is leaving to go to business school.

Telegraph Group ad manager Jonathon Wilson said he wanted to look at the

sales structure and talk to staff before making any further

appointments.

"We have some time before Peter leaves to assess our needs," said

Wilson.

A hiring freeze at The Telegraph suggests that the positions will all be

filled internally.
