LONDON (Brand Republic) - Hollinger Telegraph is considering launching paid-for services on its website, telegraph.co.uk, with the next 18 months.
The news came as Hollinger鈥檚 new media division unveiled a new Telegraph website, money.telegraph.co.uk, as part of the on going revamp of its internet business.
The site features personal and business finance news and information, and is the latest in a series of sites to be based on supplements of the Daily Telegraph.
Last year the company launched sport.telegraph.co.uk, and in February it unveiled travel.telegraph.co.uk. A motoring site and a jobs section are scheduled for launch in June.
Hugo Drayton, the head of Hollinger Telegraph new media, explained that each site is being run as a separate business, which could be eventually spun-off.
Most of the content will be free, with advertising and sponsorship as the main source of revenue, said Drayton. However, he said paid-for services could be introduced within the next 12-18 months.
There is a growing trend for websites to start charging for content as an alternative source of revenue to advertising. Internet industry news site Netimperative.com yesterday launched a campaign to persuade users to subscribe to a £50 service, and other sites such as Britannica.com have said they are considering introducing fee-based services.
